English Summary

The author begins by stating that owning a zoo is very different from just visiting one. When you own a zoo, you can rush out at any time to observe animals, but it also means you are on duty twenty-four hours a day.

The day begins just before dawn. The sky turns yellow, and the birds’ songs wake you up. You can hear the robin and the rich, hoarse cries of the Touracos. As the stars fade, Mike (a staff member) starts his round. Suddenly, a chorus of birds begins, led by the white-headed thrush. In the courtyard, peahens search the dewy grass while a male peacock dances with his tail raised like a fountain.

At eight o’clock, the zoo staff arrives. They shout greetings to each other, and the sounds of buckets and brushes fill the air. The work of cleaning and feeding begins.

লেখক শুরুতেই বলেন যে চিড়িয়াখানা পরিদর্শন করা আর চিড়িয়াখানার মালিক হওয়া দুটি সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা বিষয়। মালিক হলে আপনি যখন খুশি প্রাণীদের দেখতে পারেন, কিন্তু এর অর্থ আপনাকে দিনে চব্বিশ ঘণ্টাই দায়িত্ব পালন করতে হয়।

সকাল আটটায় চিড়িয়াখানার কর্মীরা আসে। তারা একে অপরকে চিৎকার করে সম্ভাষণ জানায় এবং বালতি ও বুরুশের শব্দে বাতাস ভরে ওঠে। চিড়িয়াখানা পরিষ্কার ও প্রাণীদের খাওয়ানোর কাজ শুরু হয়।
