English Summary

Bhola Grandpa and his wife lived at the western end of the narrator’s village. Their hut was overshadowed by a largeBokal tree, which was home to a troop of monkeys. Neither Bhola Grandpa nor his wife minded the monkeys.

The first funnyincidenthappened on a moonlit night while returning from a village festival. The narrator was riding on the village chowkidar’s shoulders when Bhola Grandpa suddenly let out a loud wail (cry). It turned out that Bhola Grandpa had taken his grandson to the festival. He was holding the boy’s two fingers tightly, but at some point, the fingers slipped out. Being forgetful, Bhola Grandpa continuedwalking with his hand gripped as if he were still holding the boy. When someone asked him what he was gripping, he remembered his grandson and cried out.

Fortunately, the narrator’s father sent two sharp-eyed men to look for the boy. The grandson was found safe, taking a cosy shelter under a cow’s belly.

ভোলা দাদু এবং তাঁর স্ত্রী গ্রামের পশ্চিম প্রান্তে বাস করতেন। তাঁদের কুঁড়েঘরটি একটি বিশাল বকুল গাছের ছায়ায় ঢাকা ছিল, যেখানে একদল বানর বাস করত। তবে এতে দাদু বা তাঁর স্ত্রীর কোনো আপত্তি ছিল না।

প্রথম ঘটনাটি ঘটে এক জোছনা রাতে, যখন সবাই মেলা বা উৎসব থেকে ফিরছিল। রাস্তাটি ছিল কুয়াশাচ্ছন্ন। হঠাৎ ভোলা দাদু চিৎকার করে কেঁদে উঠলেন। আসলে, তিনি তাঁর নাতিকে নিয়ে মেলায় গিয়েছিলেন এবং নাতির দুটো আঙুল শক্ত করে ধরেছিলেন। কিন্তু ভিড়ের মধ্যে কখন যে আঙুলগুলো ফসকে গেছে, তিনি টেরই পাননি। তিনি আগের মতোই হাত মুঠো করে হাঁটছিলেন। যখন কেউ তাঁকে জিজ্ঞেস করল তিনি কী ধরে আছেন, তখন তাঁর হুঁশ ফিরল এবং তিনি আর্তনাদ করে উঠলেন।
