English Summary
There was once a lad named Jon who desperately wanted to be a sailor. However, his mother forbade him from going to the sea. She reminded him that he was a farmer’s son who knew the turn of the seasons and the smell of the soil, but nothing about the sea. Being an obedient boy, Jon listened to his mother and continued his farmwork with a heavy heart.
One day, while ploughing the field, Jon almost ran over a tiny green turtle sitting on a clod of dirt. To save it, he picked it up and placed it on his head, knowing it would be safe there. After he finished ploughing, he took the turtle off his head. To his utter surprise, the turtle turned into a tiny green fairy man! The fairy man stood on Jon’s palm, bowed, and thanked him for his kindness.
Bengali Summary (অংশ ১: সবুজ কচ্ছপ ও পরি মানুষ)
একদা জন নামে এক বালক ছিল যে নাবিক হতে খুব চাইত। কিন্তু তার মা তাকে সমুদ্রে যেতে বারণ করতেন। মা তাকে মনে করিয়ে দিতেন যে সে একজন কৃষকের ছেলে; সে ঋতু পরিবর্তন এবং মাটির গন্ধ চেনে, কিন্তু সমুদ্র সম্পর্কে সে কিছুই জানে না। বাধ্য ছেলে হওয়ায় জন তার মায়ের কথা মেনে নিয়েছিল এবং ভারাক্রান্ত হৃদয়ে চাষের কাজ চালিয়ে যাচ্ছিল।
একদিন জমি চাষ করার সময়, জন মাটির ঢিবির ওপর থাকা একটি ছোট্ট সবুজ কচ্ছপকে প্রায় চাপা দিয়েই দিচ্ছিল। কচ্ছপটিকে বাঁচাতে সে সেটিকে তুলে নিল এবং নিজের মাথার ওপর রাখল, কারণ সে জানত ওটা ওখানেই সবচেয়ে নিরাপদ থাকবে। চাষ শেষ হলে সে কচ্ছপটিকে নামাল। তখন সে চরম বিস্ময়ে দেখল যে কচ্ছপটি একটি ছোট্ট সবুজ পরি মানুষে রূপান্তরিত হয়েছে! পরি মানুষটি জনের হাতের তালুর ওপর দাঁড়িয়ে মাথা নত করে তাকে তার দয়ার জন্য ধন্যবাদ জানাল।
