English Summary
The fairy man rewarded Jon with a striped cap full of wind, which sailors desire most. However, there was a warning: no human hand could ever take it off. Jon ignored his mother’s caution that “no good will come of the wind cap” and ran off to sea. He joined a ship anchored near the shore.
The cap worked exactly as promised. Jon became very popular because he could summon the wind from any direction by twisting the cap. This made him a prized sailor, and the captain never let him go ashore. The condition of the cap was both good and bad—good because he couldn’t show disrespect to the captain by removing it, but bad because it couldn’t be lost or stolen.
For a year and a day, Jon stayed on the ship, seeing nothing but the churning waves. Eventually, a strong desire grew in his heart to see the land again.
