My Own True Family Summary (English)
The poem begins with the poet creeping into an oakwood in search of a stag. There, he meets an old, weak woman with a “knobbly stick” and “rag.” She claims to have the poet’s secretinside her little bag. When she opens the bag, the poet falls into a trance or a dream.
In this dream, he finds himself tied to a stake, surrounded by a staring tribe of oak trees. The trees introduce themselves as his “own true family.” They complain that humans chop them down and tear them up without showing any mercy or sadness (“you do not blink an eye”).
The trees threaten the poet: unless he swears a promise to plant two oak trees whenever one is felled, the black oak bark will wrinkle over him, and he will die. He will be rooted among the oaks where he was born, but never grew (meaning he never grew spiritually to understand nature).
The poem ends with the poet waking up. When he walks out of the forest back to human company, his physical walk is that of a human child, but his heart has changed—it has become a tree. He has developed deep empathy for nature.

কবিতাটি শুরু হয় যখন কবি একটি পুরুষ হরিণের খোঁজে ওক গাছের বনে প্রবেশ করেন। সেখানে তিনি এক জরাজীর্ণ বৃদ্ধার দেখা পান, যার হাতে ছিল গাঁটযুক্ত লাঠি এবং পরনে ছেঁড়া কাপড়। বৃদ্ধা কবিকে ভয় দেখিয়ে বলেন যে তাঁর ছোট থলিটিতে কবির গোপন রহস্য আছে। বৃদ্ধা যখন থলিটি খোলেন, কবি একটি স্বপ্নের জগতে চলে যান।
