গল্পের এই অংশে আমরা দেখি যে স্বামীর পরিকল্পনাটি ব্যুমেরাং হয়ে তার দিকেই ফিরে আসে। স্বামী ভেবেছিল স্যামুয়েলের রাগের কথা শুনে বাবা তাকে স্কুলে পাঠাবেন না। কিন্তু হিতে বিপরীত হলো। বাবা প্রধান শিক্ষককে (Headmaster) দেওয়ার জন্য একটি কড়া চিঠি লিখলেন এবং স্বামীকে নির্দেশ দিলেন সেটি স্কুলে গিয়ে জমা দিতে। স্বামীর কোনো আপত্তিই বাবা শুনলেন না।

স্কুলে যাওয়ার পথে স্বামীর মন খারাপ হয়ে গেল। সে নিজেকে পৃথিবীর “সবচেয়ে খারাপ ছেলে” (worst boy) মনে করতে লাগল। তার বিবেক তাকে দংশন করতে শুরু করল কারণ সে জানত স্যামুয়েল সম্পর্কে সে যা বলেছে তা পুরোপুরি সত্য নয়। স্যামুয়েল আসলে অতটা খারাপ মানুষ নন; বরং তিনি ছাত্রদের প্রতি বেশ বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ।

রাস্তার ধারে দাঁড়িয়ে স্বামী ভাবতে লাগল। তার মাথা বিভ্রান্তিতে (confusion) ঘুরছিল। সে কিছুতেই ঠিক করতে পারছিল না যে চিঠিতে বাবার লেখা অভিযোগগুলোর যোগ্য স্যামুয়েল সত্যিই কি না। স্যামুয়েলের চেহারা—কালো মুখ, না কামানো গাল, হলুদ কোট—মনে করে স্বামীর খুব দুঃখ হলো। এই অংশে আমরা স্বামীর মানসিক দ্বন্দ্ব এবং অনুশোচনা দেখতে পাই।

Introduction to Father’s Help (Unit 2)

Welcome back, students! In the previous unit, we saw how Swami tried to avoid school by making excuses about a headache and his “angry” teacher, Samuel. Now, in Unit 2, the story takes a serious turn. Swami thought his description of Samuel would make his father stop him from going to school. But did that happen? No! Instead, his father became even more determined to send him.

In this section, Swami falls into a trap of his own making. His father writes a complaint letter against Samuel. Now, Swami is filled with fear and guilt. His conscience (বিবেক) starts bothering him. He realizes that he might have exaggerated or lied about Samuel. This unit beautifully portrays the conflict in a young boy’s mind—the struggle between truth and lies, and the fear of consequences.

Why is this Unit Important?
